Ponte... nas Ondas!

PNO! prepares a radio marathon from Compostela to commemorate its 30th anniversary

  • The event will take place on Wednesday March 26 from the USC Faculty of Communication Sciences and will feature the participation of De Vacas, Astarot or journalist Tereixa Navaza
  • A radio marathon that will be led by the presenters of the podcast O Faiado, will have the participation of six schools in the region

The Cultural and Pedagogical Association, Ponte… nas Ondas! (PNO!) is ready to celebrate its 30th anniversary from different points in Galicia and northern Portugal. The association, which is an NGO consulting on intangible heritage for UNESCO, will have two broadcasting points in Compostela, from the USC Faculty of Communication Sciences, on a school radio day in which popular and traditional music and artisanry and crafts will play a leading role.

There will be six centers in Santiago and the region that will participate in this day that will feature a performance by the group De Vacas as well as the band Astarot and the composer Pablo Seoane. Journalist Tereixa Navaza will also participate in a five-hour day of school radio in which there will also be room for other forms of intangible heritage: traditional clothing and school radio.

Thus, the Asociación do Traxe Galego (Galician Dressage Association), which also completes its three decades of history in 2025 – just like PNO! – will discover some of the peculiarities of traditional Galician clothing and the Ourives de Compostela Association will bring artisan silver workers and jet artisans who, for centuries, played a fundamental role in the development of the city of Santiago.

A “Very Compostela” day

From the organization of the event, they define this school radio day as “very Compostela” because, they explain, “based on the premise of recovering and disseminating the intangible cultural heritage, we claim above all the traditions and knowledge of Santiago de Compostela” and give as an example to our community or traditional tradition, as well as the knowledge of the parish of Lavacolla that will also be addressed in the day from the Asociación de Mulleres Rurais da Sabugueira (Sabugueira Rural Women’s Association), in which there will also be time to choose popular music from other areas, such as the Ordes council, through the recordings of Gustav Henningsen in the 1960s and will feature a performance by the group of Cantareiras do Xulián Magariños (Negreira).

The program, which will be broadcast live through the website escolasnasondas.org, will be hosted by the presenters of the podcast O Faiado and will include CEIP de Vite, IES do Milladoiro and IES Xulián Magariños de Negreira, CEIP Plurilingüe da Ramallosa, CEIP Plurilingüe A Igrexa-Calo, CEIP Plurilingüe Mestre Rodríguez Xixirei, IES Ordes and two groups of students from Facom itself who are currently working on two recently created podcasts, Bocazas con Encanto and Morriña Podcast.

The day was presented this Monday at the USC Faculty of Communication Sciences. The vice dean of the faculty, Alba Silva, participated in the presentation; with director of AGADIC, Xacobo Sutil; general director of Educational Planning and Innovation, Judith Fernández; and president of Ponte… nas Ondas!, Santiago Veloso; and also from PNO!, responsible for organizing the event in Compostela, José Manuel Diego.

More than 60 educational centers throughout Galicia

More than 60 educational centers from three training stages, primary, secondary and university, will participate directly in the programming on March 26, carrying out live radio programs, with the participation of PCI holders, invited artists and connections with professional radio stations.

From Costa da Morte (Vimianzo, Municipal Auditorium), Lugo (Fuxan os Ventos Auditorium), Santiago de Compostela (Faculty of Communication Sciences), Pontevedra (Pazo da Cultura Auditorium), Ourense (Marie Curie Auditorium), Vigo (Ed. Miralles Auditorium), Valença do Minho (Alfândega) and Lisbon (Instituto Ginés de los Ríos).

A 4-hour program will be broadcast live from each studio and auditorium. This “radiovisual” broadcast can be followed live from the website (www.pontenasondas.org) and the Escolas nas Ondas portal (www.pontenasondas.org).

In all programming there will be a wide and diverse participation of bearers of intangible cultural heritage, who will be interviewed and will demonstrate their knowledge live.

In addition, Galician and Portuguese artists will participate live with performances and interviews. Compositions expressly prepared for this 30th anniversary will be released. Journalists from various media will send testimonies of support for the communication experience.
