CONTEST RULES
The Contest aims to transmit this heritage that is deposited in families to new generations so that they have knowledge of their origins and heritage. With these images, they will have access to a good part of cultural expressions that have already disappeared or that are already unknown to the youngest.
Intangible cultural heritage is mainly made up of knowledge, techniques, forms of organization or collective expression along with festive and family manifestations. It is located in the practices of daily life that are carried out by members of society that have families as the basic nuclei, being experienced by the people who carry it and, as such, it has been documented since the beginning of photography.
The images of family albums contain many of these manifestations and experiences that may be unknown to students in educational centers. In this work of transmitting and experiencing the images, the involvement of families is necessary to help understand the contexts where the documented cultural expressions were produced and the role of teachers as a transmitting agent is fundamental. Since the beginning of the 20th century, many images have been taken of cultural expressions spread throughout the Galicia and Northern Portugal Euroregion, becoming valuable testimony to the common Galician-Portuguese heritage.
In this competition, students must find these black and white photographs. They must also ask about their context and the people. And from there, they must create their own text or audio (podcast) where they explain their experience of the image.
The Association promotes the recovery and enhancement of photographs. One of the objectives is that they can be used in the school environment, emphasizing the “didactic load” they include, and to be known by the general public and thus contribute to the transition from the analog environment to the digital environment.
PNO! model of good practices (education+heritage+ICT+communication) with the Intangible Cultural Heritage registered with UNESCO in 2022, it has a valuable example in this activity and educational centers can integrate it into their educational practice as a way of transmitting it to new generations.
For all of the above, the Cultural and Pedagogical Association Ponte…nas ondas! is calling for the 8th Contest to collect images of the Galician-Portuguese intangible heritage.
