• Climate change is UNESCO’s proposed theme in 2025
• The EscolasnasOndas website will broadcast the work of students on school radios
This Thursday, February 13th, 2025, we celebrate World Radio Day. PNO is helping schools to get involved each year in this UNESCO anniversary. The international institution adopts this year the motto “Radio and climate change”, highlighting the numerous opportunities that broadcasting offers to give prominence to issues related to climate change and highlighting how school radio is a medium that trains and educates on key issues for the shared future of the planet.
UNESCO reminds that 2025 is a crucial year for climate change: in accordance with the Paris Agreement, if humanity wants to limit global warming to 1.5 °C, greenhouse gas emissions must reach their peak that year, before they begin to decline. And to support radio stations in their news coverage of this issue, they decided that climate change will be the focus of this World Day in 2025.
ESCOLAS NAS ONDAS website (www.escolasnasondas.com) will collect all the radio pieces produced by the educational centers in their classrooms and school radios during the days prior to this event. Participating, among other councils, are schools from Ferrol, Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, Narón, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Monforte de Lemos, Moaña, Castro de Rei, Mugardos, Cangas, Cea, Tui, Salvaterra, Salceda de Caselas or Ponteceso, in Galicia, and Monção or Vila Nova de Gaia, in Portugal.
They will be around a hundred radio pieces produced by teams from Galician and Portuguese schools, which this year joined the celebration of World Radio Day. Girls and boys from kindergarten to primary school and girls and boys from secondary school, high school and vocational training, approached the microphones of the school radio station to collaborate on the day.
