Teachers from the Ponte…nas ondas! Model School Network for Best Practices in Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) held a training session on Tuesday, April 22, at the Auditorium of the CINC building (Cultural Innovation Center) in the City of Culture of Santiago de Compostela.
Coming from primary and secondary schools throughout Galicia, this 5-hour in-person session will be complemented by two online sessions on May 14 and 21.
The event was opened by Judith Fernández, Director General of Educational Planning and Innovation of the Xunta de Galicia, who welcomed the attendees and emphasized that the implementation of the Ponte…nas ondas! model is a commitment by the regional government to consolidate a network of schools integrating radio, heritage, and ICTs into a model that has already been internationally recognized by UNESCO.
The program continued with a presentation by Santiago Veloso, president and coordinator of Ponte…nas ondas!, who spoke about the origins of the initiative and its development into a solid model. He highlighted key actions and activities carried out over the past three decades and congratulated the teachers on their work.
Damián Alonso, voice actor and workshop facilitator for Ponte…nas ondas!, explained the keys to working with radio and cultural heritage in the classroom and shared his experience from sessions with students at participating schools.
Xerardo Pereiro, anthropologist, researcher, and professor at UTADE (University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro), presented a course on Intangible Cultural Heritage for teachers and its didactic application, also recognizing the valuable work of Ponte…nas ondas!.
Cristina Sánchez Carretero, anthropologist and researcher at INCIPIT – CSIC (Institute of Heritage Sciences – Spanish National Research Council), praised the role schools are playing in Ponte…nas ondas! and, as a jury member of the “Images of Heritage” competition, highlighted the importance of this now 8th edition, calling it one of the most original PCI activities.
The session concluded with a visit to the INCIPIT facilities in the Fontán Building, where the teachers had the opportunity to learn about the institution’s work, guided by several researchers from different fields.
The training will be completed with two online sessions. In addition, schools are receiving workshops for students on the Ponte…nas ondas! model.
